Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the factory where Happynest Homes are putting the finishing touches to their latest creation — the Floya modular home. It's always exciting to see a design transition from concept to construction, and the Floya is no exception.

The Floya is Happynest’s single-unit modular home — a premium solution for off-grid living that combines exceptional energy efficiency, sustainable design, and architectural flair. With its elegant gable-end overhang and expansive sliding doors, the home offers year-round protection from the elements while blurring the line between inside and out.

Since my last visit, the progress has been impressive. The Thermowood cladding, known for its long lifespan, durability and low environmental impact, is now installed — giving the exterior a rich, natural texture and helping the home settle effortlessly into its surroundings. This is just one example of eco-friendly materials chosen for both durability and beauty.

Above, a standing seam metal roof provides a clean, contemporary finish with long-term resilience — a popular choice for both modern prefabricated homes and low-maintenance architecture.

Interior Focus: Sustainable Materials & Wellness-Focused Design

Inside, the Floya home reflects the Happynest commitment to sustainable living and healthy home environments. Every material has been carefully selected — from wood-fibre wall panelling and VOC-free paints to wooden slats — creating a calm, breathable, and uplifting interior.

This aligns with wider trends in wellness architecture, where the focus is on improving air quality, natural light, and sensory experience through biophilic design principles and eco-conscious building practices. These are not just stylish interiors — they are spaces designed to support wellbeing.

One particularly rewarding moment on this visit was spotting my technical architectural drawings pinned up on the factory wall, being used by the skilled team bringing the design to life.

You’ll be able to see the completed home at the World of Park & Leisure Homes Show, from 6th–8th June 2025 at Stoneleigh Park, where Happynest Homes will be exhibiting on Stand M5.
