We don't just design houses and extensions; our expertise spans from large-scale architecture to small-scale bespoke furniture. It is all in the detail. We recently had the pleasure of designing a highly customised, contemporary media unit for a private client in York.

Visualising the Design

A successful project relies on exceptional design quality and clear communication. To help the client fully imagine the final product within their home, we produced high-quality 3D visuals.

As showcased in the photorealistic render, the visual accurately captures the light, textures, and scale of the finished piece, ensuring the client knew exactly what they were getting before a single cut was made.

Details

Translating this vision into reality requires rigorous attention to detail, which is where our assembly drawings come in. Every joint, and cable run was meticulously planned.

Materials & Finishes

The resulting design is a stunning, 4.25m long floating unit. By lifting the cabinetry off the floor, we created an illusion of more floor space, making the room feel open while maintaining a sleek, modern silhouette. We opted for a sophisticated two-tone aesthetic to perfectly balance modern minimalism with natural warmth:

  • Cabinetry: The main carcass is constructed using 18mm Egger MFC PerfectSense in Onyx Grey. The flush doors feature a minimalist handleless design, extending 20mm to allow for easy opening.

  • Worktop & Shelving: We utilised 32mm solid oak for the worktop and the floating shelves, all treated with a rich smoked walnut finish.

  • Backing Panel: An 18mm oak effect sheet with a matching smoked walnut finish beautifully ties the display panel and base unit together.

  • Hardware: The unit is fitted with high-quality, soft-close chrome hinges for a premium, tactile feel.

Seamless Integration & Craftsmanship

The media unit cleverly hides the client's AV tech. It features designated cupboards to neatly house the AV receiver, speakers, NAS drive, and PlayStation. To ensure the clean lines aren't ruined by unsightly cords, we incorporated a comprehensive hidden cable management system, complete with grommet holes for plugs and speaker wires.

A brilliant design requires a master craftsman to bring it to life. This bespoke unit was built and installed by the excellent Matthew Airey of River Interiors, whose top-tier craftsmanship perfectly matched our rigorous design standards.
